Chevrolet's futuristic hillock 2x visual shows off master gran turismo concept

Paying homage to the "innovative race car," the Chevrolet and Tea Garden race cars developed 45 years ago, the American automaker has unveiled the Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo concept at the ongoing LA Auto Show.

The concept is a futuristic race car that uses technology even the Chaparral Creator-Jim Hall can't imagine, including laser propulsion.Yes, the laser!According to Chevrolet, the mid-mounted propulsion system emits pulses of light that focus in the shroud, creating a shock wave that generates thrust to move the car.

"This concept is a bold and ambitious vision - and a bold and ambitious vision of how Chevrolet's engineering and design teams can challenge norms and explore the technologies of tomorrow," said Clay Dean, executive director of advanced design."It's also a unique partnership that pioneered underground breakthrough technology used today on the track and on the street."

The Chaparral 2x has a composite chassis and an extremely aerodynamic body that requires the driver to be stitched with arms and legs facing the wheel seam.The insect-like body also helps extract maximum grip from the relatively small 17-inch front wheel and tires.The laser is powered by a lithium-ion battery and a belt-air generator, which helps the car generate 900bhp.The company says all this power helps the Chaparral 2X sprint from 0-100km in just 1.5 seconds to reach the top Whack of 384km.

Other manufacturers have also developed concept race cars for the Vision Gran Turismo project, but Chevrolet is one of the few to move from the digital world to a physical concept vehicle that's on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show through Nov. 30.
