CARIAD, the software company of the Volkswagen Group, has chosen BlackBerry QNX technology for its software platform VW.OS, according to foreign media reports.As part of the Volkswagen Group's NEW AUTO strategy, CARIAD is developing a unified software platform consisting of VW.OS, Volkswagen Cloud VW.AC and a scalable and unified end-to-end electronic architecture.Volkswagen Group brands will use the platform from around 2025.

BlackBerry will license its BlackBerry QNX technology, including its QNX OS for Safety 2.2, to CARIAD.The technology will be integrated in CARIAD's software platform VW.OS, specifically in the stack for advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving functions (ADAS/AD).

In the ADAS/AD stack of VW.OS, QNX OS for Safety 2.2 will serve as the foundation for reliable safety.As part of the agreement, BlackBerry QNX will also provide professional engineering and consulting services for system-level integration, performance optimization and solution validation.

Built on BlackBerry's advanced and secure QNX Neutrino real-time operating system (RTOS), QNX OS for Safety is a fully POSIX compliant and open standards-based operating system that enables embedded developers to build safety-critical systems.In addition, QNX OS for Safety is certified to ISO 26262 ASIL D, the highest functional safety standard in the automotive industry.

The solution features a pre-certified, scalable microkernel RTOS, so automakers and embedded software developers can speed up development time and reduce project implementation costs.
