Following the introduction of the all-new Mazda CX-60 PHEV, Mazda announced that it will also offer a new e-Skyactiv D engine that is powerful, clean and efficient, according to foreign media reports. This is yet another demonstration of Mazda's "Multi-Solution Approach," which addresses consumer demand for a vehicle that is efficient, long-distance driving, and capable of towing.

The company's multi-solution strategy aims to provide different products and technologies, including more efficient internal combustion engines and various electrified powertrains, to minimize emissions and fully meet the needs of local markets and society for sustainable development.Overall, Mazda will launch five new electrified products over the next three years, all using a multi-solution platform architecture. After 2025, the company will launch the new Skyactiv EV scalable architecture.Based on this unique technology, Mazda is able to efficiently build electric vehiclesof all sizes using a common platform.

Debuting on the CX-60, the new diesel powertrain is Mazda's first 3.3-liter inline-six e-Skyactiv D diesel engine.Benefiting from highly innovative advanced combustion technology, the new e-Skyactiv D will be one of the cleanest diesel engines in the world.Mazda believes the engine will be sufficient to meet all upcoming emissions regulations.

This new 3283 cc longitudinally mounted common rail electric direct injection six-cylinder e-Skyactiv D engine adopts the "right size" concept to improve fuel and power efficiency by optimizing displacement. The engine will be available in two output power options: 200PS/147kW rear-wheel drive and 254PS/187kW Mazda i-Activ all-wheel drive.

The diesel engine features a new 48V Mazda M Hybrid Supercharging system that delivers both high output and excellent fuel economy.Benefiting from the highly innovative advanced combustion technology - DCPCI (Distribution Controlled Partial Premixed Compression Ignition), the engine's efficiency, emissions and fuel economy are further improved, achieving a thermal efficiency of over 40%.These two technologies greatly benefit the CX-60, offering excellent range, strong driving dynamics, and low fuel consumption and emissions.

The 254PS/187kW e-Skyactiv D has excellent performance. It only needs 7.4 seconds to reach 100 km/h, the top speed is 219 km/h, the average WLTP fuel consumption is only 5.3 l/100 km, and the CO2 emission is only 137 g/km.By comparison, the 200PS/147kW model's WLTP average fuel consumption is just 4.9 l/100 km and CO2 emissions are only 127 g/km.

The inline-six engine is "perfectly balanced," resulting in less vibration, making for a smoother, quieter ride while delivering a clean, engaging engine sound. The engine is capable of delivering high torque, giving the CX-60 a high towing capacity equivalent to a 2500 kg trailer weight.Due to its simple construction, the engine weighs similar to the 2.2-liter Mazda Skyactiv D four-cylinder diesel engine, substantially reducing operating balance differences.

An inline-six 3.0-liter e-Skyactiv petrol engine will join the e-Skyactive D and e-Skyactiv PHEVs to complement the Mazda CX-60 range of powerplants.Accommodate the exceptional craftsmanship and in-vehicle technology of the CX-60 family of vehicles by providing users with technologically leading, efficient powertrain options.

With the introduction of the CX-60, Mazda has taken another major step forward in reducing fleet emissions on the road to becoming fully carbon neutral by 2050.In 2023, Mazda will introduce a new model, the CX-80, which is larger than the Mazda CX-60 and has three rows of seats. In most European markets, the all-new Mazda CX-60 diesel will go on sale in January 2023.
