The 2022Hyundai Elantrawas supposed to make its grand North American debut at the New York Auto Show this week, but he so canceled late in the game that Hyundai has taken a virtual approach once again.

We've seen the car and know pretty much all the necessary details, so today is more about checking out new photos and confirming North American specs and features. The original set of photos showed the Elantra N painted in Hyundai Performance Blue, but these images show Ceramic White. The white paint only further accentuates its massive mouth. The design changes between the standard Elantra and N still look quite striking in these new photos, and we'll reserve final aesthetic judgement to check out the new styling for ourselves.

As for the big stuff, Hyundai confirmed a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 276 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque.Pressing the "N Grin Shift" button increases power to 286 hp by increasing boost pressure for 20 seconds at a time.Hyundai says the interval between presses is just 40 seconds, so you could theoretically use it every lap of the track. You'll need to spec the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to get N Grin Shift power, though, as it doesn't work with the standard six-speed manual. As with cars usually equipped with a dual-clutch automatic, you suffer weight loss.At 3,186 pounds, the six-speed manual transmission is 110 pounds lighter than the DCT car. Some extra weight is also on top, as all DCTs have sunroofs, while manual Elantra Ns have a full hardtop roof.

We wish we'd shared more details like pricing and fuel economy, but Hyundai overlooked those important details when it debuted in North America today.Instead, we can confirm that everything you read about the international version of the car applies to the spec car.

Hyundai installs an electronic limited-slip differential to properly tune the power up front. It has sizable brakes (14.2-inch rotors up front) and high-friction linings -- Hyundai even revised the brake boots to improve cooling rather than dust-clogging.We can also confirm that all Elantra Ns will have a mechanical parking brake instead of an electronic one.Hallelujah drifts into sick winter.

The chassis and suspension are fully treated and ready for N tasks.Hyundai integrates the driveshaft, hubs and bearings into a single unit to provide a more powerful and lighter drivetrain - a design derived from the Elantra N TCR car.New, stiffer bushings are used throughout the suspension, and Hyundai says the use of dual composite insulators on the front suspension helps with handling and NVH.Use the extra support from front to back for better stiffness, and you'll actually see one of the extra reinforcement bars painted red in the trunk.Of course, modern cars use electronically controlled adaptive dampers to dynamically adjust the damping.
