GM's Factory Zero plant to shut down for four weeks to prepare for electric car production

GM's Factory Zero electric truck plant, which makes the Hummer electric pickup truck, will shut down for four weeks starting June 27inpreparation for increasing production capacity,media reported.

On June 21, GM spokesman Dan Flores confirmed the temporary shutdown of the plant.Flores said GM had scheduled plant shutdowns ahead of schedule to increase production capacity.The plant will be closed from June 27 to July 22, and GM will install tools, machinery and equipment during the shutdown."These hardware upgrades will also help prepare the factory for future products, including the Chevrolet Silverado EV," Flores said in a statement.

The Hummer electric pickup is the only model currently produced at GM's Factory Zero plant.In the first quarter of this year, GM delivered the Hummer electric pickup to 99 customers.But demand remains strong for the pickup and the Hummer electric SUV due next year.It is reported that GMC has received more than 77,500 reservations for the Hummer electric pickup and SUV.

GM plans to build the Silverado and GMC Sierra Denali electric pickups at the Factory Zero plant, as well as the Cruise Origin ride-sharing and delivery vans.Starting this fall, the plant will assemble Ultium cells into battery packs and packs for different vehicle designs.

On June 17, General Motors raised the price of its Hummer electric pickup by $6,250 to cushion higher commodity and transportation costs amid strong demand for sedans and trucks.GM said the Hummer electric pickup is currently priced at about $80,000 to $110,000, and the price increase is only for orders placed on and after June 18.
