Audi to build second 'charging center' in Zurich

After a successful initial pilot phase in Nuremberg, Audi is moving forward with its plans to build charging centers in the city,media said in a statement.

The company plans to build a second pilot site in Zurich in the second half of the year to further test its compact, modular charging center concept, which offers bookable fast-charging stations, a 200-square-meter lounge and a terrace .

Following the opening of the charging center in the city of Zurich, Audi also plans to open charging centers in Salzburg and Berlin, and plans to add three more charging centers across Germany in 2023 and 2024.

While the Zurich charging center uses the same modular design as the Nuremberg center, it will be more compact due to its smaller footprint in the city's financial district.The new center will offer four under-the-hood charging points and a redesigned swivel arm for charging.These chargers will each provide charging rates of up to 320 kilowatts.Two 55-inch monitors will show nearby shopping, fitness and dining information.

During the trial phase, the Nuremberg charging station provided more than 3,100 charging times, with six pre-bookable high-power charging points available at the base.Audi reports that the center offers an average of 24 recharges per day, with a charge capacity of about 800 kilowatt-hours.An average of 35 customers a day come to its lounges where food service and seating are provided.

"These figures and positive customer feedback demonstrate that our concept of delivering a flexible, high-quality fast-charging infrastructure within the city is sound," Ralph Hollmig, Audi's charging center project manager, said in a statement.
